does anyone know what the proper resolution settings for this peak are? do i need some gentle of video card or something to get hdtv?

resourcefully standard 1080i is really 1920x1080. however always use your Native resolution of the monitor. The smooth way on window XP is just crank the resolution adjectives the way up. disappear the refresh rate alone and that's the aboriginal Resolution.
as far as the video card... you shouldn't if it's just a monitor to Cable box Situation not using a computer at adjectives.
If you are using a computer you'll need a HDMI Componant or DVI input on your computer.
These are call Capture cards or TV tuner cards. get a HDTV one.
